Ottoman Yataghan Sword

The slightly curved steel blade comes with two grooves running from the mid-point to tip, featuring gold inlaid inscription. The grip and scabbard of silver-gilt is decorated with filigree rosettes to sides and pommel, while the scabbard of repousse silver is decorated with a series of cartouches on a floral ground with gilded terminal and upper.

The inscriptions on the blade reads - to one side, the owner’s name Asil Agha and the name of the dog of the Seven Sleepers Qitmir. On the other side: "bicak elde gerek / delde sübhan tawakkuli ‘ala khaliqi / ghayrat ahmad" meaning “In the hand one must have a dagger and ‘Praise Him!’ in one’s heart, my dependance is on my creator Ghayrat Ahmad”.

Ottoman enamelled and inset gilt copper Dagger

  • Measurements: overall length 26.5 cm

The dagger features a straight watered steel blade with an engraved and gilt decorated cartouche containing the maker’s mark. The tapering tombak hilt with black and turquoise enamelled cartouches presents pink enamel flowers and arabesque designs, the spine has turquoise enamel decoration, while the upper finial has a black inset stone.

The tombak sheath is profusely decorated with a turquoise and white cartouches containing gilt arabesque and raised enamel polychrome floral decoration. There is also an inscription that reads: "Qur’an, sura XI, Hud, part of verse 56".

Slightly curved, the single-edged blade is decorated on both sides with a silver-inlaid cartouche depicting floral motifs. One side is complete with inscriptions in Arabic. The white metallic grip and ring-nut present remains of gilding, with filigree and floral decorations.
