Ottoman Yataghan Sword

The slightly curved steel blade comes with two grooves running from the mid-point to tip, featuring gold inlaid inscription. The grip and scabbard of silver-gilt is decorated with filigree rosettes to sides and pommel, while the scabbard of repousse silver is decorated with a series of cartouches on a floral ground with gilded terminal and upper.
The inscriptions on the blade reads - to one side, the owner’s name Asil Agha and the name of the dog of the Seven Sleepers Qitmir. On the other side: "bicak elde gerek / delde sübhan tawakkuli ‘ala khaliqi / ghayrat ahmad" meaning “In the hand one must have a dagger and ‘Praise Him!’ in one’s heart, my dependance is on my creator Ghayrat Ahmad”.
